Letzten Sonntag (3.2.13) ging es nach Fremantle. Fremantle ist eigentlich eine eigene Stadt wird aber als Vorort von Perth angeschaut. Ziel war das Fremantle Prison in der Nähe des Fremantle Markets. Dort buchte ich die „Doing Time Tour“ und die „Great Escapes Tour“. Um 13:00Uhr ging es los. Zuerst ging es an die „Rezeption“ wie der Ankunftsraum der Häftlinge genannt wurde.

Dort wurde vom Tourguide liebevoll erklärt, wie so ein Prozedere ablief wen neue Gefangene ankamen. Einer der Tour Besucher durfte als Vorzeigeobjekt die Durchsuchung in abgespeckter Version über sich ergehen lassen. Zeitgleich erfuhr ich eine Menge interessante Details über das Gefängnisleben im Fremantle Prison. So war duschen nur drei Mal pro Woche erlaubt auch wenn wie am Sonntag 37°C herrschten.

Anschliessend ging es ins eigentliche Gefängnis rein. Zuerst durchquerten wir den Duschraum, wo die Gefangenen ihre erste Dusche nehmen durften. Kurz darauf standen wir im Gefängnishof mit Blick auf den grössten Zellenblock von Western Australia. Wir folgten dem Tourguide ins Innere des Zellblocks. Dort erhielten wir Informationen über die Zellen und die Haftbedingungen. Danach ging es weiter zu den Küchenbereichen und in die verschiedenen Gefängnishöfe.

Von den Gefängnishöfen ging es weiter in den nächsten Zellentrakt. Dort wurde die Entwicklung der Zellen aufgezeigt. Am Anfang konnte man nicht einmal die Arme ausstrecken so klein waren die Zellen. Nach dem Besuch des Bunkers ging es weiter zum Galgenzimmer wo die Todesstrafe durchgeführt wurde. Die gesamte Tour dauerte über 75 Minuten. Ich hatte bereits beide Touren gebucht und war recht froh, dass ich die zweite Tour in einen Gutschein umtauschen konnten und diese innerhalb von zwei Wochen machen können.

Nach dem Gefängnis ging es noch zum Fremantle Market wo ich für 5$ (extrem günstig) diverse Früchte (Trauben, Äpfel und Aprikosen)kaufen konnte.

I went last Sunday (3.2.13) to Fremantle. Fremantle is actually an own small city in the south of Perth. The destination was the Fremantle Prison next to the Fremantle Markets. I booked there the „Doing Time Tour“ and the „Great Escape Tour“. The first tour started at 01:00PM. At first we went to the reception. That was the room where the prisoners arrived.

In this room the Tour guide explained us, how the prisoners have been frisked. One of the visitors had to be the lucky one who has been our guinea pig. At the same time we received a lot of information about the cells and the detention conditions. One conditions was, that the prisoners were only allowed to have three showers a week, no matter how hot it was!

After this we traversed the shower room, where the prisoners were allowed to have their first shower. A few later we stood on the prison yard, with a view to the largest cellblock of Western Australia. We followed the tour guide into this cellblock. The guide told us, that the prisoners have had only a small pot as toilet. (Look at the pictures on the bottom).

Then we went to the kitchen area and to the different prison yards. From there we went into the next cellblock, where we saw the history of the cells. In the first cell it wasn’t possible to stretch the arms out, because the cell was so small. After we had visited the bunker, we went to the room where they had been carried out the death penalty.

The whole tour lasted more than 75 minutes, and I was too tired to do the second one. So we asked if I could do the second one on another day. That wasn’t a problem and so I’m going to do the second tour within the next two weeks.

After I visited the prison I went to the Fremantle Market where I bought some really cheap fruit (apples, grapes and apricots) for only 5$
